Stresa is less than one our drive from Milan and Malpensa International Airport. Highway A26 and the National roads S.S. 33 of the Simplon Pass and S.S. 34 through Verbania permit easy connection with Northern Europe through Switzerland and the rest of the Italian highway sistem. The railway station on the Simplon line from Milan to Domodossola also gives the possibility of train connections with most European cities.

by car
If you come from Switzerland (Simplon Pass) we suggest to go froward when S.S. 33 becomes Highway A26 and exit Baveno-Stresa (toll free until the exit). If you come from Switzerland (San Bernardino-Bellinzona-Locarno) just follow the main road keeping the lake always on your left hand side
until you reach Stresa (road is S.S. 34 until Verbania, then S.S. 33 direction Milan). If you come from Milan, get A8 in direction of the lakes (Laghi - Sesto Calende), do not exti but go on to A26 direction Gravellona Toce. Once you are on highway A26 you have 3 options: you can exit Arona and then follow S.S. 33 up to Stresa for about 18 Km keeping the lake on your right hand side (scenic road). You may also go forward on A26 and exit Carpugnino (forbidden to buses) where you'll find a narrow road going down to Stresa (5 Km) with a wonderful panoramic view. Last option is to exit Baveno-Stresa where the road will immediately reach the lakeside: you'll need to drive back to Stresa for about 4 Km with the lake on your left hand side.

Daily trains from/to Milan, Turin, Venice and, through the Simplon Pass to/from Bruxelles, Geneva and Basel are direct to/from Stresa. The lenght of a train trip to/from Milan is between 50 minutes (Intercity) and 80 minutes (local trains).

by plane
The nearest airport is Milan Malpensa. From the airport you can reach Stresa by car, by bus and by train. Irf you want to reserve a taxi you have just to ask it when you book your room; of course this is the most expensive transportation. From the airport you can also go by bus to Gallarate railway station and from here you catch a train on the Milan-Domodossola line direction Domodossola. Another solution, easier when you leave than when you arrive, is the Alibus, the shuttle bus service direct from the airport to Lake Maggiore. But you must reserve your seats, the shuttle does not run when there are no reservations. If you prefer renting a car, go from the airport to highway A8 and then follow the above directions in the "by car" section.
